Company 6 is the central station on the north side of the city. Typically staffed by 4 firefighters and a District Officer (Lieutenant/Captain), this station primarily responds to calls within the heart of Bethlehem. Ground apparatus kept at this station are Rescue Engine 6, Ladder 2, and Utility 1. The station is shared with Bethlehem EMS, housing 1 part-time ambulance that is staffed by 2 Paramedics while in service. The department’s two Marine Units are kept at Company 6 for responses on the city’s acreage of the Lehigh River and neighboring areas as requested. Both Engine 6 and Ladder 2 have a compliment of 2 firefighters: Driver and Tools (Hoseman) on Engine 6, Driver and Bucket-man on Ladder 2. When possible, the officer is placed on Engine 6. If officer staffing is short on the North side for any reason, the Engine 6 officer will use Utility 1 (Command/Squad Truck) to respond. The Broad Street station has an oversized first floor truck bay area, and it has a standard second story accompanied by a hose tower. The hose tower is utilized for cleaning/maintenance of hoses and ropes, along with Technical Rescue training.
